Finance Minister K M Mani recommended the department to make a hike of
10% in the dearness allowance of government employees and teachers. The
next cabinet meet will consider the proposal.
If the allowance is hiked, the government will suffer an additional liability of Rs 1600 crores yearly. The allowance was hiked four times after the UDF Government came into power.
